Family blames husband for pregnant wife’s death

The family of a three-month pregnant mother of six, Deborah Fawolere, who passed away at Gbagada General Hospital on Tuesday, points fingers at the husband, Idowu Fawolere, accusing him of contributing to his wife’s death.

According to the late wife’s sister, Toluwalase Adedoyin, Idowu Fawolere had a history of physically assaulting his wife, even during her seventh pregnancy. The husband, however, denied the allegations during an interview, asserting that he had never physically harmed his wife.

Adedoyin claimed her late sister had left Fawolere’s house multiple times due to assault and violence. The family alleges that the physical abuse may have contributed to Deborah Fawolere’s deteriorating health during her pregnancy.

In response, Idowu Fawolere dismissed the claims, describing them as “cooked-up stories” and asserting that his late wife fed her family with lies. He stated that he was the one who took her to the hospital when she wasn’t feeling well.

The Divisional Police Officer in Oworonsoki, Bello Taofeek, confirmed that the matter was reported to the division, and investigations are ongoing. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency urged the family to formally report the case to enable appropriate actions.

This incident follows another domestic violence case in December 2023, where a husband allegedly murdered his wife in Alimosho Local Government Area over a meal-related dispute.
