Nigeria, UK Sign Agreements on Migration, Border Security, Business Visas

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed a set of agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation on migration, border security, and business travel. The agreements include a Migration Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a Statement of Intent on tackling organised immigration crime and border security, and another on expanding business visas for UK companies operating in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Babatunde Alao, media aide to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo signed the agreements on behalf of the Nigerian government during an official visit to the UK.Tunji-Ojo said the partnership reflects Nigeria’s commitment to a migration system that is transparent, orderly, and aligned with national and international obligations. He added that the agreements are expected to enhance cooperation while addressing irregular migration and related criminal activities.

The minister also noted that expanding business visa access would support economic growth by easing trade and investment flows between both countries. UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the agreements as a significant step in bilateral relations, expressing confidence in continued collaboration between both nations.

UK Trade Envoy Florence Eshalomi said the business visa expansion would deliver mutual economic benefits and strengthen commercial ties. The agreements are part of broader efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation between Nigeria and the UK.
