As political activities build ahead of the 2027 general elections, House of Representatives aspirant John Chun is attracting growing support in Riyom/Barkin Ladi Federal Constituency of Plateau State. Chun, a pharmacist, has stepped up consultations with party leaders, community stakeholders, youth groups and women organisations across the two local government areas.
Some residents who spoke to journalists cited his accessibility and community engagement as factors driving his acceptance. A farmer in Barkin Ladi, Lazarus Badung, said Chun has maintained longstanding ties with communities in the constituency. Others referenced his reported involvement in initiatives such as medical outreaches, scholarships and youth empowerment programmes.
Another resident, Gabriel Bot, said Chun’s activities have positioned him as a notable contender in the race. In his engagements, Chun has identified insecurity, poor road infrastructure, youth unemployment and limited support for farmers as key challenges in the constituency. He has pledged to prioritise legislation and interventions aimed at improving rural infrastructure, supporting agriculture and enhancing youth development if elected.
Chun also emphasised the need to expand access to improved farming inputs and markets, noting that agriculture remains central to the local economy. Political observers say his consultations and grassroots outreach could influence the dynamics of the contest as the election approaches.
