Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, the 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos State, who passed away on November 30, 2021, has been laid to rest at the family’s compound in Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.

After two years of seeking justice, Sylvester’s burial, held on Saturday, drew numerous dignitaries. Emotional scenes unfolded as family members, friends, and well-wishers mourned the untimely death of Sylvester, who allegedly died due to torture by some senior students at his college.

Revd Goodluck Bayagbon, from the God’s Grace Ministry, Warri, conducted a brief homily titled ‘Forever With The Lord,’ encouraging Christians to live exemplary lives. Describing Sylvester as a true believer in Christ, Revd Bayagbon emphasized that Sylvester had gone to rest with the Lord, free from the world’s evils.

Celebrating Sylvester’s life, he said, “We are here to celebrate him, not to mourn. At his age, look at the mammoth crowd that came to bid him farewell to the heavens.”

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana also paid tribute to Sylvester, describing him as a great Nigerian whose life was tragically shortened. Falana acknowledged Sylvester’s impact on teachers, friends, and fellow students and urged everyone to reflect on what they would be remembered for after this life.

The family, through the deceased’s father, reiterated their commitment to seeking justice for Sylvester, expressing determination to persist until justice is served, even if it takes thirty years.
