Missing Ogun banker faked abduction over N1.7m debt – Police

The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that Olumide Openaike, an employee of Kemta Oloko Microfinance Bank reported missing and later found in Mokwa, Niger State, orchestrated his abduction over a debt of N1.7 million.

Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed this revelation on Tuesday. Olumide’s disappearance was initially reported by his wife, Temitope, who shared details of his missing status on January 17 while en route to work.

However, Temitope later informed journalists that her husband had been located in Mokwa, Niger State. The police received information contradicting the reported abduction, labeling it as a staged event.

According to Odutola, Olumide confessed to faking his abduction due to financial troubles, specifically the misappropriation of N1.7 million belonging to the bank. The funds were meant to be remitted by a customer, but Olumide diverted them for personal use.

Facing depression, Olumide decided to stage the abduction. He is currently in police custody, detained for further investigation into the fabricated incident.
