FCT Police Intensify Measures Against Kidnapping: Crackdown on Vehicles without Number Plates

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has directed a robust clampdown on vehicles lacking number plates or displaying a single number plate while operating on FCT roads. This directive came to light during a meeting with the FCT Police Command’s Management Team, tactical unit leaders, and department heads.

The meeting, convened on Saturday, aimed to rejuvenate the existing security framework and implement strategies to enhance the safety of FCT residents. Commissioner Igweh emphasized the importance of intelligence-led and visibility policing, urging officers to conduct frequent stop-and-search operations in the ongoing fight against criminal activities.

In a statement on Sunday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, relayed the CP’s instructions. Igweh urged the tactical unit leaders to identify potential black spots and locations used by kidnappers in the territory, emphasizing the need to proactively combat criminal elements.

One of the key measures announced by Commissioner Igweh is a comprehensive clampdown on vehicles without proper number plates or those with only a single number plate navigating FCT roads. The CP stressed a zero-tolerance approach to laxity and reiterated his commitment to tackling criminality within the territory.

In addition to these measures, residents were urged to collaborate with the police in crime prevention. Commissioner Igweh called for increased community partnerships and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities promptly. Emergency contact lines, including 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883, were provided for reporting, along with the Police Complaints Bureau (PCB) at 09022222352.
