Edo PDP Aspirants Threaten Legal Action Over Ward Congress Dispute

Nine aggrieved governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State are considering legal action if the party’s national leadership fails to address their concerns regarding the recent ward congresses held last Sunday.

The aspirants boycotted the ward congress, which aimed to select delegates for the party’s governorship primary scheduled for February 22, citing grievances with the process.

Among the nine aggrieved aspirants are Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anselm Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Ambassador Martin Uhomoibhi, Hafia Umoru, Dr. Earl Onaiwu, and Arthur Esene. However, Omosede Igbinedion has withdrawn from the group.

Edo State PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, advised them to address their complaints to the party’s appeal panel in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants, Anslem Ojezua emphasized the importance of resolving internal disputes within the party. He stated, “If you build on a failed foundation, the result would still be faulty at the end.”

Ojezua stressed their commitment to utilizing the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism but warned, “If at the end the party didn’t listen to us, we will take any option available to us. It is when we exhaust all this that we can take legal action to protect our rights.”

He urged their supporters and party members to remain calm, assuring them that the responsible parties for the party’s challenges in Edo State would be held accountable in due time.
