Buhari’s Policies Responsible for Current Hardship, Says Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, attributed the current hardships in Nigeria to what he termed as the “reckless policies” of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, Oshiomhole recalled his opposition to certain policies that he believed were aimed at further burdening an already suffering populace.

He emphasized that the enduring challenges faced under the current administration are the lingering effects of the policies implemented during Buhari’s tenure.

“My first loyalty is to Nigeria. At some point, before the last President left office, I lamented loudly what I saw as reckless policies that were designed to dehumanize the population that was already in pain,” Oshiomhole remarked.

He stressed that he, along with other governors, openly criticized and disassociated themselves from those policies, which he believes are now manifesting as long-term consequences.

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s involvement, Oshiomhole absolved him of direct responsibility for the decisions made by the previous administration, emphasizing that Tinubu was neither a minister nor an adviser during that time.

“Like Tinubu also said, he was not a minister or adviser. He never took a contract in that government and he cannot be held responsible for what the government did right or wrong,” Oshiomhole clarified.

Echoing similar sentiments, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, underscored that it would be unjust to solely blame President Tinubu’s administration for the current economic challenges.

Sanusi emphasized that the nation is grappling with a deteriorating economy due to mismanaged economic policies over the past eight years.

“While I am not absolving Tinubu of all responsibility, in this current economic situation, President Tinubu is not to be blamed,” Sanusi asserted, acknowledging that while Tinubu’s administration may not be perfect, the blame for the economic woes cannot be placed solely on his shoulders.

“I will also speak if I see any wrong economic policy of the Tinubu administration in the future,” Sanusi concluded.
