Federal Government to Commence Repair of Long Bridge on Monday

The Ministry of Works, representing the Federal Government, has unveiled plans to initiate repair works on the damaged expansion joints of the Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

In a statement released by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the repair is scheduled to commence from 7 a.m. on Monday, March 4, and continue until March 25, 2024.

Kesha disclosed that commuters traveling to and from Lagos via the Long Bridge will experience lane reduction to two lanes on both sides of the bridge. This adjustment aims to facilitate the repair works by allowing the contractor to operate on the remaining two lanes of the carriageways.

The statement emphasized the importance of patience and adherence to lane discipline during the repair period, urging road users to cooperate with traffic management officials and explore alternative routes.

To mitigate traffic congestion, Kesha outlined plans to make the earth road beside the Shagamu bound carriageway motorable, providing an additional route for motorists.

While expressing appreciation for the public’s cooperation and understanding, Kesha apologized for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring minimal disruption during the repair works.

Previously, motorists had criticized Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the temporary repair of the damaged joints on the Long Bridge section. The company had initiated construction work on the bridge in September 2023, focusing on patching the open joints as part of the ongoing reconstruction project along the expressway.
