Gov Oborevwori charge Corps members on responsibility, unity

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has reminded Corp members posted to Delta State of their responsibility to use their deployment to the state to forge unity among Nigerians.

The governor made the remarks Wednesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku during the formal closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course for Corp members deployed to Delta State.

The governor, who was represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, noted that the NYSC was designed to impart in Corp members the virtues of patriotism, team spirit and above all, national integration and cohesion.

He implored them to show good understanding of the cultural diversity of fellow Nigerians in spite of the minor differences in ethnic, religious, cultural, social and economic
backgrounds.

He pointed out to the Corp members that their stay in their various places of primary assignments would erase any misconceptions they had about the state.

“Your stay in your areas of primary assignments would pleasantly help
you to erase such negative tendencies, stereotypes and preconceived notions
about fellow Nigerians.

“I can assure you that as you leave here, you are going into the receptive and warm embrace of Deltans, wherever you find yourselves”, he posited.

The governor expressed the belief that the Corp members would contribute to the realization of the agenda of the state government to make life more meaningful for Deltans.

“I therefore, expect genuine and
transparent commitment to assisting the State government and the people of
Delta State, in attaining these objectives.

“You should strive to be above board at all times and exhibit such character traits that people should proudly emulate. This is the enduring
legacy I will like you to leave behind at the end of the service year.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Alao Olusegun Olaosebikan said that the three-week orientation programme for 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Corp members posted to Delta State was demanding and impactful.

“Corps members were exposed to different lectures ranging from, Culture and Traditions of the people of Delta State, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development,
security tips, value reorientation, NYSC lectures and many more.

He expressed the belief that the objectives of the orientation had been achieved as Corps members have demonstrated a high level of discipline,
dedication, commitment, and readiness to serve diligently in various communities across the State for their Primary Assignment.

The State Coordinator thanked the Delta State government for the continuous support to the NYSC while urging the Corp members to be good ambassadors at their places of Primary Assignment.
