Breaking News: Federal Government Threatens to Revoke DisCos’ Licenses Over Power Supply

The Federal Government issued a stern warning on Wednesday, threatening to revoke the licenses of power Distribution Companies (DisCos) due to persistently poor power supply nationwide.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, conveyed this message through his official communication channels. He disclosed that Chief Executives of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have been summoned for a crucial meeting.

Adelabu emphasized that the purpose of the meeting is to address the worsening power supply situation and collectively devise lasting solutions.

Expressing dismay over the inadequate electricity distribution despite increased generation to over 4000MW, Adelabu highlighted the ministry’s efforts to pressure Generating Companies to enhance performance. However, certain distribution companies are failing to distribute power adequately, exacerbating the problem, particularly in regions like Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.

The minister asserted his commitment to holding all distribution companies accountable for their performance, warning of severe consequences, including license revocation, for willful non-performance.

Adelabu also instructed the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to prioritize repair works on damaged transmission towers and power lines to improve supply in affected regions.

Addressing outstanding debts owed to power generation and gas supply companies, Adelabu assured plans are underway to settle them, which will alleviate financial strain and contribute to improved generation levels nationwide.

In conclusion, Adelabu urged electricity consumers to remain patient as efforts are underway to address issues and provide better service to all Nigerians.
