Robbers Attacked Banks in Anyigba, 4 killed, Others sustain Injuries in Kogi

No fewer than four persons loss their lives when some deadly robbers stormed Anyigba in Dekina local government area on Thursday attacking banks at will.

According to an eye witness, it was like a war zone in Anyigba when they started shooting sporadically as people scampered for safety throwing the entire community into confusion.

It was gathered that the robbers first blocked all major roads and junctions before they started their operations. When they first attacked Access bank along Anyigba – Ankpa road, the security guard on duty was killed.

Eyewitness account also indicated that there were sporadic shootings and attacks on First Bank, Access Bank and a police station in the town where unspecified amount of money was allegedly carted away by the armed robbers.

The eyewitness also revealed that the gunmen trailed bullion van of the Access Bank to their office at Anyigba where they disarmed the security details of the van before carting away all the money.

Reliable sources also hinted that a uniform man who was identified as Idoko from iIyale ,a neighbouring village in Dekina local government was allegedly killed.

“A popular Hausa man known as Alagama, selling petty materials at the roundabout Anyigba, few metre to the venue of the incident was allegedly killed by stray bullets.” the source said.

Daybreak also gathered that the Vigilante commander of Ojikpadala – Egume in Dekina local government area, Mr. Gabriel Attah, who was returning from his farm at Anyigba via Ojikpadala road was also killed by a stray bullets. Body has since been deposited at Egume General Hospital mortuary.

In response to urgent calls, Daybreak learnt that Nigerian Navy personnel and the Police quick response team swiftly arrived at the scene, initiating a fierce gun battle with the robbers.

It was gathered that On noticing the arrival of the army and police personnel, robbers quickly zoomed off through Stadium-Ankpa roads.

Several efforts to confirm the incident from the Kogi state police command’s Public Relations officer SP William Aya did not yield results.
