KEDCO Board Condoles With Kazaure Emirate Over Electrocution of Two.

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano.

The Chairman, Board of Directors Kano Electricity Distribution Plc. (KEDCO) Engr. Adamu Ibrahim Gumel has condoled with the Emir and good people of Kazaure Emirate, over the tragic electrocution incident that claimed the lives of two individuals in the community.

He made the condolences when he visited the Emir of Kazaure, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Najib Hussaini Adamu in Kazaure, recently as contained in a press statement issued to our correspondent by the KEDCO’s head of corporate communications, Alhaji Sani Bala Sani.

Engr. Gumel expressed the Board and Management’s deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured the Emirate of KEDCO’s commitment in maintaining the highest HSE standards in its operations for utmost safety and well-being of its customers.

During the visit, the Chairman disclosed the preliminary investigations into the incident revealed that a truck had crashed into a low-tension line dragging it onto a nearby high-tension line, resulting in an overvoltage supply, claiming the life of an unsuspecting man who attempted to disconnect his service wire barehanded, aiming to avert possible inferno.

Regrettably, the other casualty, a lady, was killed by power surge as she attempted plugging an electrical appliance in her home. Restating the significance of improved collaboration between KEDCO and the community towards enhanced safety awareness to forestall future occurrences, the Chairman advised all customers to rapidly report any electrical hazard to the nearest KEDCO office for prompt resolution.

Engr. Gumel also urged the community members on the need to adhere to electricity Right of Way which restricts customers from living or carrying out economic activities under or near power lines, while also cautioning them against handling electrical wires or conductors at all times.

Representing the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Jamilu Umar Adamu, Makaman Kazaure expressed appreciation for Engr. Gumel’s visit and the Company’s concern for the community.

Makaman Kazaure who admitted the firm’s improvement in service delivery and ensuring the safety of its customers, urged that KEDCO continue to remain customer-centric in its operations which is crucial to averting future tragedies.

The KEDCO Chairman later inspected electricity distribution facilities within the community to ensure optimal performance in providing exceptional service delivery in a safe and reliable manner.
