Eleven arrested in Kano for not observing Ramadan fasting

*Non Muslims selling food to Muslims be arrested – Hisbah

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Eleven Muslims caught eating in the open during the ongoing Ramadan fasting in Kano state have been arrested by the State internal security popularly known as Hisbah Board.

The spokesperson of the board, Lawal Fagge, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said those arrested were one female and 10 males who were caught eating in public places when they were supposed to observe the fast.

He said eating during the day violates the principle of Ramadan, adding that the culprits were arrested on Tuesday around market places during its annual Ramadan enforcement operations where they search market places and eateries for violators.

He also added that non-Muslims were exempted but whoever is found selling food to a Muslim who is supposed to be fasting would equally be arrested.

Fagge, however, noted that after interrogations, the culprits were apologetic and remorseful and were later released when it was time to break the fast.
