Borno and Kaduna Kidnappers Branded as Cowards by DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has condemned the recent abductions in Borno and Kaduna states, labeling the perpetrators as cowardly.

The incidents included the kidnapping of over 200 women and children who had ventured out of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in search of firewood in Ngala, Borno state, by Boko Haram terrorists on March 6, 2024. Additionally, within 24 hours, around 280 pupils and teachers were abducted from a school in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Major General Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, attributed these attacks to the desperation of the assailants faced with intensified military pressure.

Edward highlighted that the terrorists and bandits sought to shield themselves from military retaliation by using the abducted individuals as human shields. Moreover, he pointed out that the attacks aimed to bolster their recruitment efforts, given the losses they suffered due to military operations targeting their leadership and fighters.

He emphasized, “We will not rest until they are rescued,” underscoring the military’s commitment to securing the safe return of the kidnapped victims.

Regarding the delayed military response, Edward urged against assigning blame but assured that the military, supported by international partners and intelligence, would continue operations until all hostages were safely recovered.
