Kogi Killings: SDP Governorship Candidate Urges Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency

Muri Ajaka, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings in several communities within the Omala Local Government Area of the state.

Reportedly, at least 19 people lost their lives, and numerous houses were destroyed during the attacks, the full extent of which is yet to be confirmed.

In a statement released in Abuja, Ajaka called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the deteriorating security situation by declaring a state of emergency to halt the “incessant senseless killings.”

Ajaka stated, “I vehemently denounce the repeated senseless violence and loss of innocent lives in Bagana, Otutubatu, Iyade, Agbenema, Agojeju-Odo, and other affected communities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.”

He emphasized the sanctity of every life and stressed the government’s obligation to safeguard its citizens against internal and external threats. Ajaka urged the state government to take decisive action to ensure the security of the people of Kogi State.

Furthermore, he called upon the federal government, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, to intervene in the situation, given the apparent failure of the state government to address the crisis effectively.

Ajaka urged President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Kogi State, highlighting the urgency of the situation following the brutal killings of over 35 individuals without adequate government response.

Additionally, he appealed to the Inspector General of Police, service chiefs, and the National Security Adviser to swiftly investigate the root causes of the ongoing conflict and provide humanitarian assistance to those displaced by the violence.

In conclusion, Ajaka expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and urged the people to cooperate with security forces in restoring peace to the affected areas.
