JUST-IN: Flights Diverted As Fire Breaks Out At Lagos Airport

An urgent announcement from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) revealed that flight operations at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos have been redirected to the D Wing due to a fire incident.

The fire broke out at the E54 Passenger Air Bridge within the domestic wing of the airport, prompting swift action from airport authorities. According to FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the incident occurred at 5:29hrs on Thursday morning.

FAAN’s Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) swiftly responded to the situation, arriving at the scene by 05:30hrs. They successfully brought the fire under control by 06:41hrs, while efforts to ventilate the smoke from the building were underway.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated from sparks emanating from an electrical unit. However, a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.

As a precautionary measure, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMIA have been rerouted to the D Wing. FAAN assures that more details will be provided shortly as the situation develops.
