School Mourns 14-Year-Old British-Nigerian Victim of London Sword Attack

Bancroft’s School expressed profound sorrow on Wednesday as it mourned the loss of 14-year-old British-Nigerian student, Daniel Anjorin, who tragically lost his life in a sword attack in London.

Details released by the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police shed light on the tragic incident, revealing the sequence of events leading to the teenager’s untimely death.

Anjorin lost his life on Tuesday morning while walking to school in Hainault, located in the eastern part of London, when he was viciously attacked by a man wielding what appeared to be a Samurai-type sword.

The police disclosed that a 36-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the attack and remained in custody on suspicion of murder. However, the suspect’s identity had not been disclosed as of Wednesday.

In a statement posted on their website, Bancroft’s School, located in Woodford Green near Hainault, expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss of the young student.

Describing Anjorin as a dedicated scholar, the school highlighted his positive nature and gentle character, which left a lasting impact on the school community.

According to the police, the harrowing incident unfolded shortly before 7 am when the suspect crashed a van into a house fence, striking a man before stabbing him in the neck.

Subsequently, a 35-year-old man was attacked inside a nearby property, sustaining lacerations to his arm. Tragically, Anjorin became the next victim of the attacker’s violence, succumbing to his injuries.

Police responded swiftly to the scene, arriving 12 minutes after the initial emergency call. Despite efforts to neutralize the suspect using incapacitant spray and a Taser gun, the assailant remained undeterred.

During the confrontation, two police officers sustained serious injuries, requiring surgery on Tuesday and remaining hospitalized. Additionally, a woman suffered severe injuries to her arm, narrowly avoiding the loss of her hand.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the attack, expressing shock and offering condolences to those affected and their families. The Prime Minister commended the bravery of the emergency services and police officers involved in the response.

On social media platforms, including Twitter, Nigerians joined in mourning the loss of Daniel Anjorin, offering prayers and support to his grieving family. Many expressed disbelief and sadness over the senseless tragedy that claimed the life of a promising young student.
