Mass Departures from Imo PDP Indicate Confidence in My Leadership – Ihedioha

Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo State, interpreted the significant exodus of members from the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his departure from the party as a vote of confidence in his leadership.

During an interview on Arise News Channel’s ‘PrimeTime’ program, Ihedioha highlighted his decision to leave the PDP, citing the strong desire of his extensive followership for him to spearhead change and reconstruct Imo State.

He expressed disillusionment with the direction of the PDP, noting that the party’s leadership had become unyielding and resistant to suggestions aimed at revitalizing it.

Ihedioha elaborated on his departure, stating, “PDP had ceased to present itself as a viable option for forming government due to recent actions. It became evident that Nigerians no longer saw it as a party capable of assuming power at either the national or state levels.”

He underscored the need for political perception, pointing out the party’s poor performance in recent elections in Imo State. Despite this, Ihedioha highlighted his past successes in leading the party to electoral victories.

The former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives criticized the party’s leadership for its reluctance to heed advice aimed at reinvigorating it.

He further emphasized the significant number of prominent individuals who followed him out of the party, including former governors, deputy governors, ministers, lawmakers, and other politically active figures, interpreting their departure as a clear endorsement of his leadership and their shared commitment to advancing democracy and progress.
