BREAKING: Niger Speaker halts wedding plans for 100 orphans

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulamlik Sarkindaji, has canceled the planned wedding ceremony for 100 orphan girls in his constituency, announcing that he will not participate in the event.

Sarkindaji’s decision came after Women Affairs Minister Uju Ohannaya took legal action against him to stop the wedding.

During a media briefing on Tuesday, the Speaker stated that the minister had overstepped her bounds and should take over the sponsorship of the wedding.

He revealed that he had already provided funds to the girls’ parents through traditional leaders and clerics in his constituency and would not retract these funds.

Abdulamlik emphasized that his intention to sponsor the wedding was motivated by the poverty of the girls’ parents, not as a constituency project as some media reports suggested.
