Children’s Day: We’ll Secure Our Children’s Dreams – Tinubu, Governors

President Bola Tinubu and several state governors marked this year’s International Children’s Day by celebrating Nigeria’s children, describing them as the torchbearers of the nation’s future.

In a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu expressed his joy with parents, guardians, and families nationwide. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing the family unit as the foundation for instilling values such as honesty, modesty, hard work, and charity in children.

Tinubu noted that society reflects the collective values of its family units and urged the preservation of principles that foster a wholesome, nurturing, and thriving environment. He assured that his administration is committed to providing a solid foundation for Nigerian children to realize their dreams.

Highlighting increased investments in education and the overhaul of the education system to provide necessary resources, Tinubu emphasized efforts by the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education to remove children from the streets. He reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to quality education and ensuring a safe learning environment for all children.

In Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang extended heartfelt felicitations to children on the occasion of the 2024 Children’s Day celebration. In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang praised the resilience and determination of Nigerian children in pursuing their aspirations despite educational challenges.

He urged parents to nurture their children with values of integrity and godliness and advocated for mentorship under teachers and altruistic individuals to foster a morally upright society free of crime. Mutfwang highlighted his administration’s efforts to restore quality education by addressing the needs of children and the youth population. He also warned against child trafficking, child labor, and violence, promising swift action against such abuses.

Similarly, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing programs and policies that protect the rights and support the development of every Kwara child. Speaking through Commissioner for Special Duties, John Bello, AbdulRazaq outlined various educational initiatives, including the renovation and construction of classrooms, hiring of quality teachers, and equipping schools with ICT centers.

“Our administration recently set up the Child Right Implementation Committee to identify and protect the rights of our children and ensure their general well-being,” AbdulRazaq stated.

He called on parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to actively participate in molding children into useful members of society.
