The nationwide indefinite strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), recoded high level compliance in Kaduna state, the defunct capital of old northern region.

According to our reporter, the action, though cherished by many, has added to the already increased untold hardship on residents in the state.

This followed hike in transport fair experienced in some parts of Kaduna metropolis apparently due to sale of black market arising from the shutting down of petrol service filling stations across board by their Union, PENGASAN.

While business activities were seriously paralysed within the metropolis on Monday first day of the strike action, banks, judicial premises, state secretariat, schools and other organizations including business institutions premises were forced to shutdown by angry members of NLC.

Our correspondent who went round the metropolis however reported that there were business activities in printing village around Jamaa road and Kaduna central markets as well as Sabon Tasha amongst other markets squares in Kaduna.

Indeed, many of those interviewed confirmed that most business premises were shutdown voluntarily or by NLC members in Kaduna state on Monday to comply with the planned strike action.

Some privates schools in Kaduna Southern could not observed full compliance, but sources especially parents expressed the hope that they’ll join the strike tomorrow because of the assurance given to them that NLC is now serious about it.
