BREAKING: Reps Propose Six-Year Tenure for President and Governors, Rotation Among Zones

A group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives is pushing for changes to the 1999 Constitution to implement the rotation of the presidency among Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

Additionally, they seek to amend the Constitution to establish a single six-year term for the President and Governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the group in Abuja on Monday, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency in Imo State, stated, “A single six-year term for the President and Governors will reduce government spending and wastage, increase efficiency in governance, and promote national stability.”
