[JUST IN] Democracy Day: FG Declares Wednesday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, June 12, as a public holiday to celebrate this year’s Democracy Day. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.

In the statement, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and emphasized the importance of reflecting on the contributions of the country’s founding fathers to maintain Nigeria as a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity.

“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity,” the statement read.

The minister also urged Nigerians to remain committed to the principles of democratic governance. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to implementing positive reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and enhancing national security.

“The minister also called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made, and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement added.
