The Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. UJU Kennedy -Ohanenye has sued the Hon. Kafilat Ogbara and Arise Television one billion naira over defamation of character.

The minister in her office told Journalists that the Writ of Summons is as a result of wrong allegations levied against her by Hon. Ogbara, the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs, while answering questions during a programme on Arise Television on June 5, 2024.

Kennedy- Ohanenye further explained that during the programme, Hon. Ogbara maliciously told the public that she, the Honourable Minister is already under investigation by the Committee on Public Procurement, and also being invited to appear before the House Committee on Women Affairs over various offences.

The Minister disclosed that she has been wrongly accused of transactions that transpired before her assumption of office as the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs.

Kennedy-Ohanenye explained further that since she expressed her disdain towards the false allegation, yet they had not made any effort to retract it.

“I have reached out to the defendants and spoken to them on how offensive the publication was, especially because it is not true, but till date, they have not apologized to me nor retracted the defamatory publication”, she said.

I filed claims against the defendants jointly and severally for damages amounting to N1b naira for defamation of character, she emphasized.
