16,000 patients benefit from AKSG free medicare programme

Atleast 16,522 patients have  benefited from free medical healthcare of the Akwa Ibom State government in the last one year.

This is even as 48,797 students have benefited from the payment of 2023/24 SSCE fees while 4,603 people have benefited from the different entrepreneurship schemes of the state government within the same period.

Economic Adviser to Governor Umo Eno, Dr Uduakabong Inam made this known while presenting a report of activities of the state government during the weekly meeting of the State Executive Council.

The report which is contained in a release by information commissioner Mr Ini Ememobong also showed that 3,583 retirees (from the state and Local Government Services) have received their retirement benefits to the tune of N18.234bn

According to the report, 2,984 persons have benefited directly from agricultural programmes while 100 public secondary schools and 30 public primary schools have received agricultural input with 100 elderly persons benefitjng from the State Government’s financial support.

“Also 2,195 people who were within the multidimensional poor category have been scaled up through various government programmes while 4,600 persons have been employed in all sectors, across the state.

“229.411 Km of roads, with 14 bridges and 3 underground discharge drainage have been constructed. 37.7Km of feeder roads have been constructed in rural communities across the state” It said.

The release also stated that the council adopted the  State Medium Term Expenditure Framewor presented by the commissioner for Economic Development for 2025-2027 to guide the budget for the next two years.

The projects proposition report for the administration for 2024/2025 was presented and exhaustively deliberated to ensure compliance with the ARISE Agenda while the Ministries of Finance and Economic Development were charged to ensure that the budget adequately provides for their execution.
