Governor Aliyu Vows to Punish Officials for Diverting Workers’ Sallah Gifts

By Milcah Tanimu

Governor Aliyu has vowed to take action against officials who diverted the Sallah gifts intended for state and local government workers, including teachers. The governor had approved N30,000 as a Sallah gift for each worker, but reports indicate that some workers received less, with amounts ranging from N19,000 to N20,000, and others yet to receive their share.

Addressing a large crowd at the Government House in Sokoto over the weekend, Governor Aliyu warned the officials responsible for the diversion to return the money immediately or face severe consequences.

“I wonder how somebody would deny our workers the stipend we gave them to make them financially stable during the Sallah festive season. Those who diverted those funds must return them immediately, or we will take serious punitive measures against them. We will ensure that the culprits reap what they sowed to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.

Governor Aliyu urged all heads of agencies where such diversions occurred to quickly compile a list of affected workers and ensure they are refunded. He assured the public of his administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public funds.

“This administration is committed to zero-tolerance for corruption and all corrupt tendencies. If anyone thinks they can loot public funds and get away with it, they must be mistaken. This administration is a true reflection of the government of the people, for the people, and by the people. We have a huge task ahead of us that we must carry out diligently,” Aliyu added.

The governor called on the people of the state to continue supporting the current administration in its efforts to fulfill its campaign promises. He also thanked APC leader Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his guidance and the people of the state for their support and prayers.
