Some women were cheated during last primaries-NCWS president

National President, National Council of Women’s Societies, NCWS Mrs. Gloria Laraba Shoda, has expressed disappointment over wanton injustice meted against some women in politics by some political parties during the last primary elections.

Mrs. Shoda, who stated this in Abuja in an interview with newsmen, stated that a good number of women, who struggled to buy forms to enable them participate in the process were not given the opportunity to do so, adding that after obtaining the forms, the party executives either forced them to step down for men or their names were removed from the list.

She however commended some political parties, who gave women free tickets to run for the primary, saying that women participation generally at the primary in preparation for the 2019 general elections was very poor.

According to her, “We are not happy for what has happened during the last primary election. A lot of women who struggled to buy forms were disappointed at last as they were asked to step down for men.”

“I want to commend some political parties who gave women free ticket, but even at that, the inclusion of women at the primary was not encouraging. The major disappointment came from the major political parties” she said.

Mrs. Shoda advised women across the country to be cautious of their children as the campaign has commenced, stressing that they should not allow their children to be used as political thugs.

“My candid advice for women in the fourth coming general elections is that they should watch over their children/wards so that politicians would not use them as thugs.

NCWS boss also urged women to look for credible candidates capable of delivering dividend of democracy, maintaining that they should not succumb because of little money and salt politicians share about to deceive people.

“Don’t listen to money bags that will just come and give you rice, salt and money during electioneering campaigns. Does this money really worth selling their conscience? And if not, why selling their votes?” she asked.
