Tinubu Addresses Traditional Leaders: Emphasizes Commitment to National Development and Economic Recovery

By Milcah Tanimu

President Bola Tinubu assured traditional leaders of his administration’s commitment to addressing the nation’s economic challenges and improving the livelihoods of citizens during a meeting at the State House on Thursday. The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.

In his address, Tinubu acknowledged the persistent difficulties faced by Nigerians and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to resolving these issues. He emphasized that while the country is experiencing a gradual economic recovery, his government remains focused on delivering tangible improvements.

“We cannot blame God for giving us these challenges,” Tinubu stated. “Our focus must be on seeking peace and better living conditions for our people. The economy is on a steady path of recovery, and we are committed to meeting the needs of our citizens.”

The President outlined various initiatives aimed at revitalizing the economy, including the activation of student loan programs, consumer credit schemes, and the affirmation of fiscal autonomy for local government councils. He highlighted the importance of infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, which he said would boost economic activities and create opportunities for farmers.

Tinubu also expressed concern over recent protests, stressing that while demonstrations are a part of democracy, his administration cannot condone actions that result in the destruction of lives and property. He reflected on past incidents of vandalism, including the burning of buses in Lagos, which he said have exacerbated transportation challenges.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto noted that the meeting provided clarity on national issues and expressed support for the government’s efforts. The Ooni of Ife thanked the President for including key figures in the briefing, including the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Finance, to provide comprehensive updates on the state of the economy.

The President concluded by urging traditional leaders to communicate the government’s intentions to their communities and to support the ongoing efforts to revitalize the economy and enhance national security. He assured Nigerians that his administration is working diligently to overcome current challenges and to foster a more prosperous future for the country.
