By our correspondent

Surprisingly, heavily armed Nigerian soldiers, on Monday, barricaded the Keffi-Abuja expressway, leaving many commuters stranded due to the heavy traffic jam caused by the military conduct of a stop-n-search operation on vehicles entering the nation’s federal capital.

The soldiers mounted a road block at Kugbo mechanic village axis before the Sani Abacha barracks and popular AYA roundabout, according to dependable sources mostly victims of traffic hold up.

Security agencies did not give any prior warning before the blockade that has caused a gridlock extending for several kilometers at both lanes of the dual carriageway a major link in and out of Abuja, putting Nigerians in an untold hardship the more.

Civil servants and traders who work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but live outside the city centre in places such as Nyanya, Karu, Maraba and Masaka were caught in the traffic jam.

After several hours of standstill, many of them were forced to return home, or ran out of fuel, now becoming scarce.

This is coming few hours before the planned nationwide protest over the current economic hardship in Nigeria.

Some youths have vowed to embark on a nationwide protest from August 1 against the rising cost of living and economic hardship in the country, despite high resistance and campaign nationwide.
