l never approved the use of Eagle Square for protests- Wike

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that he never approved the use of the Eagle Square for protests.

Wike made the clarification on Wednesday amid palpable speculations about the hunger protests in Abuja, during an inspection of ongoing road projects connecting two communities in Abaji.

Speaking to journalists on the state of security preparation, Wike said, “We don’t want to take anything for granted, we want to make sure that security is tight , intact, and I never approved the use of Eagles Square to anybody.”

The Minister noted that in the light of this, the security agents are on ground to make sure all the public areas and infrastructure are well protected.

“We will not allow hoodlums to take advantage and begin to vandalize our infrastructure, so that may be the reason,” he explained.

Earlier, the FCT Minister after an inspection of road projects expressed happiness over the spade of work on the road construction.

He said, “I can’t tell you how happy I am, to see the connections between the various communities, which will, of course, improve their(the people)means of livelihoods and transportation.”

” We have always said that we are not only concentrating on the city center, we are also trying to open up the satellite towns because it is the belief of Mr. President to also try to discourage people from migrating to the city.”

“So connecting the two communities in Abaji, l said that it is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that every area is impacted positively.”

“Why do people migrate to the city, it is because there is no infrastructure , when you provide this type of infrastructure, it discourages people from going to the city. Urban and rural migration is discouraged.”

“People saying nothing is happening in the rural areas, you can attest to the fact that things are really happening.”

“Just between one year of Mr. President’s administration, see the kind of infrastructure that is being provided within our rural areas, you can see that of the city so we don’t repeat that again.”
“What we are saying is that today is that there is a complete revolution to transform our rural areas.”
Wike stated that what the country needs at this period is to help the country to support Mr. President and to engage in discussions, dialogue and not protests or violence.

What will help our country is discussion, dialogue and not to go and carry out a violent protest that at the end of the day, it will not benefit all Nigerians, he stated.
