FIBA Qualifiers: D’Tigress Lose to South Korea as Igoche Mark Urges Strong Comeback

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, suffered a defeat against South Korea in their second game of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualification series. The Nigerian side had earlier recorded a convincing 70–37 victory over Colombia but struggled in the matchup with South Korea. Foul trouble and an off-day for some key players allowed the Korean team to capitalise on strong three-point shooting.

South Korea led 36–32 at halftime and maintained their momentum in the second half to secure the win. Reacting to the result, basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Igoche Mark, encouraged the Nigerian team to remain focused and resilient despite the setback.

“Don’t let this one setback bring you down. Champions are not made only in victories but also in how they respond to losses,” Mark said.He urged the players to regroup and use the defeat as motivation for their remaining games.

“You’ve shown your strength before, and this is another moment to rise again. Stay focused and keep fighting for the future of Nigerian basketball,” he added. D’Tigress, led by head coach Rena Wakama, are expected to continue their qualification campaign with upcoming matches against the Philippines, France and Germany.
