As China pushes ahead with Russian/Ukraine peace plan

By Dr. Austin Maho

China is spearheading global peace and harmony. Just like the significant milestone it achieved in the Middle East, China is at the forefront in dousing escalating tensioms in the the Russian/Ukraine conflict.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said over the weekend that China would undertake shuttle diplomacy to the three countries of, Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia to conduct the fourth round of peace plan on the Ukrainian crisis underscoring global concern over the risk of conflagration in the conflict.

The international community must take actions to reverse the ugly situation in Ukraine and Russia before it leads to a global catastrophe. The is urgent need for a depressurisation of the situation in Ukraine.

The intervention of China must be commended. Beijing’s special envoy for Eurasian affairs Li Hui, is leading the charge in talks with nations of like minds to support the Chinese proposal on dousing tension in the Russian/Ukraine conflict. Li Hui, visited South Africa on August 2, and met with government officials and discussed the Russian/Ukrainian crisis, emphasizing the need for cooperation among countries of the global south in achievinh a de-escalation and ultimately achieving peace.

South Africa on its part has expressed support for the six-point China-Brazil consensus and its readiness to promote it in multilateral formats together with China and Brazil to achieve peace in Ukraine.

The six-point consensus reached by China and Brazil on the issue of a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis has so far received positive feedback from more than 110 countries. “China is ready to strengthen interaction and coordination with South Africa in order to find a common denominator based on the six-point consensus that will help form an international consensus,” Li Hui said.

This efforts by China should be commended and support by all nations of the world especially nations of the global south who have been greatly impacted my the Russian/Ukrainian conflict in the last two years.

The Chinese effort is an indication of a genuine peaceful effort to the resolution of the conflict through dialogue that brings both parties to the table in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. It is hoped that through this latest efforts by the Chinese government peace would eventually be achieve. If anything must be learnt from the last two years of the conflict, it is that pushing more weapons to the region is not going to help. That is why the Chinese approach of deescalation through peaceful dialogue must be commended and supportes
