Optimal Exercise Timing for Blood Sugar Control

By Milcah Tanimu

According to a study from the University of Granada, exercising in the evening may significantly enhance blood sugar control. The research involved 186 overweight or obese adults, who wore accelerometers and continuous glucose monitors for two weeks. Results indicated that those who exercised between 6 PM and midnight experienced notable reductions in blood glucose levels that lasted throughout the day.

This finding is particularly relevant for those managing obesity and diabetes, as evening workouts appear more effective in lowering blood sugar compared to sedentary lifestyles. Additionally, exercise timing can impact other health aspects: working out two hours before bed can improve sleep, while morning exercise may help reduce belly fat and lower blood pressure.
