Civil Servants’ Screening on IPPIS Portal Ends Friday, Says FG

The Federal Government has once again extended the deadline for federal civil servants to verify their identities on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal. According to *The Press*, the new deadline is set for Friday, August 23, 2024.

A circular signed by the IPPIS management, seen by our correspondent on Sunday, announced a one-week extension for those who have not yet updated their information. The circular also confirmed that the process of collating and validating the submitted information is already underway.

This extension follows the government’s directive that all employees registered on the IPPIS system must update their details as part of a broader effort to combat salary fraud.

Initially, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, issued a deadline of July 31, which was later extended by two weeks, ending on August 15.

The directive to verify the identities of all civil servants came after a citizen living abroad reported that he continued to receive his monthly salary despite having left Nigeria years earlier. In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered that all civil servants receiving salaries from the government after relocating abroad must refund the money.

President Tinubu also stated that supervisors and department heads who facilitated such fraudulent activities would face disciplinary actions.

“During my recent visit to South Africa, I was informed by the Head of the Civil Service about employees who had relocated abroad while still drawing salaries without formally resigning,” Tinubu said. “We must ensure those responsible are held accountable, and restitution is made. The culprits must refund the money they have fraudulently collected. Their supervisors and department heads must also be punished for aiding and abetting the fraud.”

The new circular, titled “Notification of Closure of Payroll Validation Portal,” reads: “The Treasury Circular with Ref. No. TRY/A6&B6/2024-GAGF/CAD/026/Vol. V/2024, dated June 27, 2024, extended the deadline for the Payroll Validation Portal to midnight on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

“The process of collation/validation of all information submitted has commenced. During the period of collation, a further one-week window ending on Friday, August 23, 2024, has been allowed for those who may not have updated their information.

“It is hereby emphasized that any employee who does not comply with the circular before the deadline will be suspended from the payroll.”
