Magistrate Court 1 in Sokoto, presided over by Chief Magistrate Fati Hassan, has remanded Shafi’u Umar Tureta on Monday for allegedly circulating a video of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s wife spraying money during her birthday celebration.

Defense lawyer Barrister Almustapha Yusuf Abubakar stated that Shafi’u faces two charges: spreading a video showing the governor’s wife spraying money while others are suffering from hunger, and posting a credential of the governor with an F9 result, which has not been disputed as being genuine.

Barrister Almustapha noted that the court has scheduled the next hearing for September 6, 2024. The court may decide at that time whether to grant bail, as the accused has denied the allegations.

A reliable source indicated that if the suspect is found guilty, he could face up to six months imprisonment or a fine.
