On Tuesday, Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo pledged to safeguard Kogites against any form of aggression or oppression. His commitment was made during a message commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation.

Governor Ododo emphasized his role as “Chief Servant” and affirmed his responsibility, both legally and morally, to protect every Kogite, no matter where they are in the world. He vowed to build upon the achievements of his predecessors and paid special tribute to his immediate predecessor, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON. Bello’s efforts in infrastructure and governance, Ododo noted, have greatly advanced the state’s development.

Reflecting on recent events, Ododo highlighted the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming his victory in the November 11, 2023, gubernatorial election. He described the judgment as a triumph not only for him and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), but for democracy and all citizens of Kogi State. The ruling, he said, resolves electoral disputes and calls for unity among Kogites, including those in opposition.

Ododo strongly condemned the harassment of Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party candidate, by miscreants following the Supreme Court’s decision. He stressed that violence, intimidation, and disrespect have no place in a democratic society and called on law enforcement to investigate and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to peace, respect, and the promises outlined in the Kogi State 32-Year Development Plan and Manifesto. He stressed the need for public support to achieve sustainable development, improved infrastructure, and enhanced security.

Ododo expressed gratitude for the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, acknowledging that Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda have been instrumental in advancing both Kogi State and the nation.

As the Kogi State Local Government Elections approach on October 19, 2024, Ododo assured all candidates and citizens of a fair and transparent electoral process.
