Senator Nwoko Clarifies Anioma State Creation Plans, Denies Interest in Governorship

By Anne Azuka

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North at the National Assembly, clarified his position regarding the creation of Anioma State, stating that he has no intention of becoming its first governor. Speaking at the Anioma Stakeholders’ Summit in Asaba, which he organized, Senator Nwoko emphasized that the first governor should come from the Ndokwa nation, a region he described as oil-rich but marginalized.

He explained that the creation of Anioma State would bring development closer to the people, just as Delta State’s creation benefited Asaba. He highlighted the economic and political advantages, including increased representation in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchukwu, the Dein of Agbor, endorsed the Anioma State creation, urging that it not be politicized but embraced as a collective aspiration with long-term benefits.

The Dein praised Senator Nwoko for championing the cause, emphasizing the legitimacy of the quest for a homogenous state for Anioma people.
