8 Reasons why your phone’s battery doesn’t last longer

Does your phone’s battery drain faster than expected? Well, here are possible reasons why your phone’s battery doesn’t last long enough.

1. You leave programs in idle mode
A typical person would open an app, go about their business and once they’re done, minimize it to the background without fully closing it. When that happens, you burden your battery with needless background processes to deal with — making it run down faster.

Close apps once you’re done using them for the moment. That way, your battery won’t be draining faster than necessary.

2. Body and atmospheric heat
Have you noticed that your battery empties faster when the weather is hot? That is because when your phone heats up, it loses some battery juice. And the same goes for holding your phone in your hand or carrying it in your pocket where a combination of body warmth and the weather heats up the phone battery; causing it to overheat and discharge faster.

That is why your friends who carry their phones in their bags and backpacks rarely go around looking for chargers to boost their phone battery. You should follow their lead.

3. Bright wallpaper and display settings
Colorful and bright images are fun to have as wallpapers, but, they contribute a great deal to running down your phone’s battery. It gets even worse when you have your display settings on the highest to brighten up your screen.

A better alternative is to have black and white, or simply dark wallpapers — and also turn on the auto-brightness feature on your smartphone. It takes less power to display the dark images, and when you enter a darker room or space, the auto-brightness adjusts your display to fit.

4. You don’t clean the charging port
Do you have an idea the amount of lint and other debris from your pocket that gets stuck in the charging port? Hint: lots of lint. Anytime you charge your phone, the charger pushes lint from your pocket or bag further into the charging port. What happens is that your terminals don’t get enough contact when you try to get some power on your phone via charging. So you end up having slow charge times and less battery juice.

The next time you wipe your phone down, complete the cleaning process by attending to the charging port.

5. You don’t check your battery settings
Checking your battery settings would help you know which apps consume battery power the most; so that you can restrict or completely turn them off.

6. You use both volume and vibrate features for calls and notifications
Sound features eat up your battery on their own. The vibrate function uses up even more energy. Combining these two features would drain your battery faster than you can imagine.

A better thing to do is to use volumes at moderate setting, and if necessary, only switch on the vibrate feature sparingly. That way, you can have more phone battery left after a day of regular use.

7. Your Bluetooth, GPS, and WiFi are always on
Most times we can’t escape having our WiFi on. But what of Bluetooth and GPS? Those two are not necessities, so it’s energy efficient to have them turned off.

8. Your auto-rotate is always active
Auto-rotate works using the accelerometer; a sensor that runs constantly in the background. And you know what background processes mean to your smartphone’s battery.

Always switch this feature off when it’s not in use, and you’ll notice a significant drop in battery discharge times.
