The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF) has commenced training of its staff to upscale service delivery in the audit of funds expended by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
In a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, Mrs Oghenekevwe Ebireri, the Deputy Director, Information in the office, said the first batch of the training was launched by the Auditor-General, Mr. Anthony Mkpe-Ayine·
Mkpe-Ayine said the training was aimed at equipping the staff with necessary information on how to utilise the Government Integrated Financial and Management Information Systems (GIFMIS).
He said the programme would provide an opportunity for auditors to improve the quality of their work in a seamless and efficient manner.
“We can only deliver quality service to the people of Nigeria when we are properly trained and equipped.
”The GIFMIS takes into cognisance all steps in the expenditure cycle-budget
appropriations, financing limits, commitments, verification and payment transactions.
”It is aimed at using automated and integrated information management systems to improve the acquisition, allocation, utilisation and conservation of public financial resources,” Mkpe-Ayine said.
Ebireri explained that GIFMIS would allow government to undertake central control and monitoring expenditure and receipts in MDAs to increase access to information on financial and operational performance.
The GIFMIS platform will also increase internal controls to prevent and detect potential and actual fraud, among other benefits, she said.
”This will in turn aid strategic management of public financial resources for enhanced
accountability, transparency, cost effective public service delivery, economic growth
and poverty reduction efforts of the Federal Government,” Ebireri explained. (NAN)
