Gunmen Kidnap PDP Chieftain in Oyo

A prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Oyo State, Benedict Akika, was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday night at his residence in Olorunda, Lagelu Local Government Area.

According to investigations, heavily armed gunmen stormed Akika’s home, threatening to shoot anyone who resisted. A family source, who wished to remain anonymous, said Akika was relaxing with his family when the attackers arrived.

“There were sporadic gunshots aimed at scaring residents and passersby,” the source said, adding that Akika was forcefully taken to an unknown location.

Another source noted that Akika had recently empowered widows and the less privileged with work tools worth millions of naira at his Olorunda residence.

As of the time of this report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was unavailable for comment.
