JUST IN: NNPC to Sell Dangote Petrol for N1,019/Litre in Borno, N950 in Lagos

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that petrol from the Dangote Refinery will be sold at prices above N1,000 per litre in some parts of the country, particularly in the far north.

According to a statement released on Monday by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, titled *‘NNPC Ltd Releases Estimated Pump Prices of PMS from Dangote Refinery Based on September 2024 Pricing,’* the price could reach as high as N1,019 per litre in Borno State. In other northern areas such as Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano, petrol will sell for N999.22 per litre.

In southern states like Oyo and Rivers, the price will be set at N960 per litre. The lowest price, N950 per litre, will be available in Lagos and surrounding areas, according to an infographic shared by the NNPC.

“The NNPC Ltd has released estimated prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, sourced from the Dangote Refinery for its retail stations nationwide. As stipulated by the Petroleum Industry Act, PMS prices are determined by direct negotiations between parties, not by government intervention,” Soneye said.

The company further explained that the petrol it began distributing on Sunday was paid for in U.S. dollars. However, naira-based transactions will only commence starting October 1, 2024.

The NNPC added that should any price discrepancy arise, it would welcome any discounts offered by the Dangote Refinery, which would be passed on fully to consumers.

The statement also addressed the ongoing pricing debate with the Dangote Group, which had refuted NNPC’s claim on Sunday that petrol was being sold at N898 per litre, although it has yet to release its own official price list.
