5 Foods to Avoid After Typhoid Fever for Faster Recovery

By  Milcah  Tanimu

If you’ve recently recovered from typhoid fever, your digestive system may still be delicate. The food you consume can significantly impact your recovery. Here are five types of foods to avoid to help your body heal more effectively:

1. Spicy Foods
Spicy foods can irritate your already weakened digestive system. Ingredients like chili, pepper, and hot sauces may cause stomach discomfort, bloating, and diarrhea. Opt for milder flavors until your digestive system has fully recovered.

2. Fried Foods
Foods such as fries, doughnuts, and fried chicken are high in unhealthy fats and can be difficult to digest. Greasy and oily foods may lead to indigestion. Choose baking, steaming, or boiling over frying to make your meals easier on your stomach.

3. High-Fiber Foods
While fiber is generally beneficial, it can be too harsh on a sensitive stomach. Raw vegetables, whole grains, and legumes might cause gas and bloating. Focus on easily digestible options like cooked vegetables and refined cereals during your recovery.

4. Dairy Products
After typhoid fever, you might experience temporary lactose intolerance. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and cream can cause bloating and diarrhea if your digestive system is still weak. Consider non-dairy alternatives such as almond or oat milk.

5. Processed Foods
Processed foods, including packaged snacks and frozen meals, are often high in preservatives, salt, and sugar. They provide little nutritional value and can hinder your recovery. Stick to fresh, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to support your healing process.
