In a significant effort to enhance educational quality in Kaduna State, Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) has successfully trained 400 teachers to effectively use its innovative ‘Jolly Player’ device. This digital teaching tool aims to make learning fun and engaging for pupils.

During a training session in Kaduna, Abbas Muhammad, ULS Technical Education Specialist, explained that the ‘Jolly Player’ contains all 43 jolly phonics letter sound lessons and storybooks. He emphasized that ULS focuses on teaching strategies that extend beyond basic reading and writing to include comprehension, listening skills, and vocabulary development.

Raheenatu Jumare, ULS’s Jolly Phonics Project Coordinator in Kaduna, highlighted the device’s potential to revolutionize the teaching landscape. She stated, “By harnessing the power of multimedia, the ‘Jolly Player’ aims to create a more enjoyable, effective, and inclusive learning experience for pupils.” Jumare also noted the organization’s commitment to bridging the technology gap in schools to improve learning outcomes.

The training program involved participants from all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State, divided into three zones. Zone two’s training occurred recently, with zone one scheduled to start on Friday.

Patience Kaciro, a teacher at LGEA Primary School, Mahuta, Chukun LGA, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. She stated, “Teaching should be fun, and this device offers engaging and entertaining methods that will easily capture the pupils’ attention, especially with the decodable stories. It will also make grammar lessons more interesting and easier to understand.”

Facilitator Abdullahi Adamu introduced teachers to the device’s features, which include interactive lessons, pronunciation guides, and assessments to enhance grammar teaching. The ‘Jolly Player’ offers three power sources: solar, electric, and an inbuilt manual rotator for generating power.

With this training, ULS empowers teachers in Kaduna to provide a more dynamic learning environment for their students.
