Cholera Outbreak Claims 10 Lives in Ebonyi State

Must read

At least ten people have died following a cholera outbreak in Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, located in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Among the victims is a nursing mother who left behind a 9-month-old baby.

The outbreak, which began on Monday, was confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, during a Rapid Response visit to the Iziogo Health Centre on Wednesday. He reported that while ten deaths had been recorded, around 20 others affected by the disease are currently receiving treatment.

Dr. Ekuma outlined the government’s efforts to contain the outbreak, commending Governor Francis Nwifuru for swiftly approving funds for the procurement of medical supplies to combat the situation. Three treatment centres have been set up in the area: Iziogo Health Centre, Sudan Mission, and Ndibokote village.

The Commissioner urged residents to take immediate precautions and seek treatment if they experience symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting. “Anyone experiencing these symptoms should head to one of the emergency treatment centres without delay,” he advised.

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to controlling the outbreak and praised the support from development partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF.
