Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has expressed his desire to become the next President of Nigeria. In celebration of the 2024 Independence Day, the Yoruba actor took to Instagram, sharing photos of himself dressed in white while making a heartfelt appeal to God, asking to be made the country’s president. He vowed that, if given the chance, he would lead Nigeria well.
He captioned his post, saying, “God, I’m not asking for too much, just the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I promise I’ll do well.”
His post garnered support from his followers, many of whom prayed for his wish to come true. Some of the comments included:

Adeniyi Johnson is not the first Nollywood actor to show interest in politics. In 2022, Yul Edochie declared his intention to run for president in the 2023 election but later withdrew after deliberations with his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), due to their lack of the necessary structure to secure victory.
Over the past few years, several Nollywood stars have ventured into politics. Notable examples include Desmond Elliot, Hilda Dokubo, Caroline Danjuma, Funke Akindele, Tonto Dikeh, Banky W, and Rita Daniels.
In 2022, veteran actress Hilda Dokubo announced her political ambition, running for a seat in the House of Representatives for the Asalga Akulga federal constituency. Caroline Hutchins (formerly Caroline Danjuma) became the deputy governorship candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in Akwa Ibom, promising to serve with loyalty and integrity.
Tonto Dikeh also ran for office as the running mate for Governorship Candidate Tonte Ibraye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State but stepped down days before the election. Similarly, Funke Akindele ran for Deputy Governor of Lagos State but lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Singer and actor Banky W contested for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to Labour Party’s candidate, Thaddeus Attah.
