Pastor Adeboye Apologizes for Tithe Comment on Heaven

Must read

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has apologized for stating that some Christians may not make it to heaven if they do not pay tithe. He acknowledged that this claim was incorrect as it is not supported by the Bible.

In a trending video, Adeboye addressed his congregation, clarifying that his previous assertion was a mistake. The 82-year-old cleric, who had warned critics not to mock God earlier this year, admitted, “I apologize for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”

Moreover, Adeboye expressed that it is inappropriate to limit his church members to a 10% tithe when they could be contributing 20% or even 30%. He remarked that the 10% tithe should be seen as a starting point for beginners.

“It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” he said. “As a scientist, I know that for years we believed light travels straight, but later we discovered it travels in waves. It is wrong to limit you to 10% when someone is talking about 20, 30, or even 40%. I believe God will soon give me the opportunity to provide more details.”

Reactions to Adeboye’s Apology

Adeboye’s apology has sparked discussions on social media. Many praised him for acknowledging his mistake, while others criticized him for asking his congregation to commit over 10% of their earnings to tithe during a time of economic hardship in the country.
