Governor Aliyu of Sokoto Inaugurates State’s Economic Advisory Council to Develop Economic Road Map

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State government has inaugurated a special Advisory Committee tasked with developing a robust economic road map for the state.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu expressed concern that his administration has been servicing debts inherited from the previous administration, highlighting the need to bring experts on board to propose workable solutions.

The governor cited a lack of economic data and poor tax collection in the state as additional reasons for initiating the Economic Advisory Committee. He urged its members to set the machinery in motion for the state’s economic prosperity.

“I urge you to exceed our expectations and offer the vital guidance needed to expedite the economic progress of this state. I also encourage you to utilize your diverse experiences in finance, commerce, and industry for the development of the state in line with my administration’s strategic agenda,” Governor Aliyu appealed.

In response, the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council, Alhaji Bello Maccido, assured the governor and the state that they would do everything possible to advise the government on how to embark on the path of solid economic prosperity.

“We will advise on the sectors of focus and on innovative financial solutions that will help the state broaden its sources of financing,” he reassured.

Chairman Alhaji Bello Maccido expressed confidence in his committee members, assuring that there would be no disappointment.

Umar Ajiya of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited will serve as the alternate chairman of the committee, alongside other members including the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Professor Lawal Bilbis; Sen. Ibrahim Gobir; Abdulkarim Bello; Abdullahi Aminu Tafida; Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba; Prof. Nasiru Yauri; Muhammad Kurfi; Abdulrahman Musa Bashir; Olaseni Oduwole; Alhaji Faruk A. Maishanu; and commissioners of Finance, Budget, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Justice, among others.

The Special Adviser to Sokoto State on Economy, Dr. Bashir Achida, will serve as the secretary of the Economic Advisory Committee.
