APC Members Urge Governor Sule to Ensure Fairness in Wamba Chairmanship Selection

By Leo Zwànke, Lafia

Loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wamba Local Government Area have called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to ensure fairness in the ongoing selection process for the party’s next chairmanship candidate. They have specifically urged the governor to consider political representation from Wamba West, emphasizing equitable distribution of leadership roles.

In a letter addressed to the governor and made available to journalists on Wednesday, the APC members stressed the importance of selecting a candidate from Wamba West, noting that the region has consistently demonstrated loyalty and made significant contributions to the party. Among the three candidates submitted for consideration, Barrister Usman Lamus and Aliyu Safyanu, both from Wamba West, were highlighted as strong contenders.

The letter pointed out that some stakeholders are lobbying for the position to be awarded to Gitta Ward, a region already holding considerable political influence, including a sitting House of Representatives member, Hon. Jeremiah Umar. Party members expressed concern that concentrating power in Gitta Ward would leave Wamba West and East without significant political representation, leading to an imbalance in leadership across the local government.

“We believe that fairness and unity within the party can only be achieved if one of the two capable candidates from Wamba West—Barrister Usman Lamus or Aliyu Safyanu—is selected. Both are well-respected members of the community and have demonstrated their commitment to the APC and the people of Wamba,” the statement read.

Party members praised the leadership qualities and experience of Barrister Usman Lamus and Aliyu Safyanu, describing them as seasoned politicians with proven track records. They urged Governor Sule to consider the broader implications of the selection process, calling for a decision that promotes inclusivity and balance within Wamba’s political landscape.
