How to Clean Your Phone and How Often You Should Do It

By   Milcah  Tanimu

Our phones are with us everywhere, making them magnets for germs. In fact, experts say that phones can carry more bacteria than a toilet seat! Yet, many of us overlook the importance of cleaning them regularly. Therefore, it’s essential to know how to clean your phone properly and how often it should be done.

Why You Should Clean Your Phone

Cleaning your phone is not just about appearance—it’s also about your health. Phones collect bacteria from surfaces like door handles, money, and shopping carts. As a result, every time we touch our phones, we transfer those germs to our faces or hands. Therefore, regularly cleaning your phone reduces the risk of getting sick.

How Often Should You Clean Your Phone?

Experts recommend cleaning your phone at least once a day. However, if you spend time in public places or use your phone while eating, you might need to clean it more frequently. A good habit is to clean your phone at night before bed, ensuring it’s germ-free and ready for the next day.

How to Clean Your Phone Properly

Cleaning your phone is simple and quick. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A soft, lint-free cloth (like the kind used for glasses)
  • A little water mixed with a drop of soap, or a disinfecting wipe that’s safe for electronics (avoid harsh chemicals)

Steps to Clean Your Phone:

  1. First, turn off your phone and unplug it from any cables.
  2. Then, dampen your cloth slightly with water and soap, or use a disinfecting wipe.
  3. Next, gently wipe the front, back, and sides of your phone.
  4. After that, dry your phone with a clean section of the cloth.
  5. Lastly, don’t forget to clean your phone case. You can use the same method, or wash it with warm water and soap if it’s made of plastic or silicone.

What to Avoid

It’s important to avoid using strong chemicals like bleach or window cleaners, as they can damage your phone. Additionally, never spray liquids directly onto the device—always apply them to the cloth first.

In conclusion, keeping your phone clean is just as important as washing your hands. By cleaning your phone daily, you can prevent germs from spreading and protect your health.
